2011 Fall Leadership Conference

Our club was recently invited to speak at the Rotary Fall Leadership Conference about club websites. Here is my slidedeck and some notes/links from the session.

  • If you’re not borrowing ideas from other sites, you’re doing it wrong.
  • Members will dig deeper than non-members. No need to put all club content on the homepage.
  • Not everyone knows what Rotary is or what we do. Talk about your projects.
  • Address whether it’s invite only or guests are welcome. This is a great video for a homepage.
  • Feel free to borrow social media from the higher-ups.
  • Use pictures. Ask permission to use photos that have rights reserved.
  • RI has your back - Rotary Logos and Web Ads, did you see their youtube channel?
  • WordPress.com provides free websites. I really like this feature. And you might want to consider this $17/yr upgrade.
If you have any questions, or just want to brainstorm ideas for your site – please speak up in the comments below!  We’re happy to help.

    Hi Phil,
I was at your presentation on Sunday and told my club webmaster about the day. I cannot seem to locate the video from RI that you showed on Sunday after looking on what I thought was the right page. Could you help me with this? I would like to show it to him. He doesn’t believe RI would make a short video for the websites.

    thank you!
